ABOUT

GARRETT'S STORY

My passion for public service began at a young age through my involvement in various clubs and service activities throughout high school and college. By the time I had graduated from West High School, I had been president of four organizations, state president of Key Club, the chair of a national service-learning grant board, and Valedictorian of my graduating class. Even at that age, I saw myself running for office one day as a way to give back to the community that had given so much to me.

I went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee- Knoxville with my degree in accounting and international business. During my time at UT, I continued to stay engaged and involved through student government, Greek life, and through the Haslam College of Business. I started my career working as an accountant for a Big Four accounting firm. I have spent most of my career working as an account executive for a variety of healthcare and medical device companies. Currently, I work as an affiliate broker for Oliver Smith Realty and Development Company, one of Knoxville’s oldest commercial real estate firms, where I specialize in tenant representation. I’m fortunate to be able to help local, regional, and national businesses expand their footprint in Knoxville and the greater East Tennessee area.

I try to stay very involved in the Knoxville community. I was a candidate for Knoxville City Council in 2021, receiving nearly 44% of the vote in the city-wide general election. Currently, I serve as an appointed member of the UT Young Alumni Council and as a member of Young Professionals of Knoxville. I also serve as a member of the Knox County Board of Zoning Appeals where I help address zoning appeals for all of Knox County. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, cooking, weightlifting, and spending time with my friends and family. Fun fact- I also am massive fan of anything superhero related (especially Marvel).
